LINCROFT: CURCHIN NUTTINESS NETS $22K
Held as always amid the cubicles of the CPA practice Curchin Group in Lincroft, the 12th annual Curchin Open indoor miniature golf tournament raised $22,000 for two charities earlier this month.
LINCROFT: CURCHIN CHIPS IN AGAIN
Once a year, the Curchin Group in Lincroft, a CPA practice, moves its desks and files aside and transforms its Half Mile Road office into a miniature golf course, where it hosts a fundraiser called the Curchin Open.
This year’s edition, held last Wednesday, generated $18,000 for two charities: Mary’s Place by the Sea and the Monmouth County SPCA, which brought two rescues (including a pup named Coco, right) to the event.

RBR FALLS TO LONG BRANCH

ANTOINE-LED RANNEY TAKES MARTIN CLASSIC
At the Albert E. Martin Classic final Wednesday night, Ranny School freshman Bryan Antoine scored 27 points as the Panthers topped Red Bank Regional, 67-51, in front of a capacity crowd in Little Silver. Antoine scored 88 points in the three games and was named tournament MVP. Shore Sports Zone has the video highlights.

RBR, RANNEY TO FACE OFF IN MARTIN CLASSIC
Sadiq Palmer scored 22 and sophomore Matt Reardon put up 14 as host and defending champs Red Bank Regional topped Central Regional, 58-35, at the Albert E. Martin Classic in Little Silver Monday.
Meanwhile, with four freshmen on the starting squad, Ranney School, led by Bryan Antoine’s 34 points, ran away from Sayreville, 71-57 in a dunkfest. Shore Sports Zone has the video highlights of those two games and more.

RBR ADVANCES IN MARTIN TOURNEY
Sophomore Devin Cooper poured in 18 to lead all scorers as defending Albert E. Martin Classic champs Red Bank Regional busted open a 24-15 halftime advantage in Little Silver Sunday. The Bucs went on to win, 58-37, and advance to the semifinals against Central Regional Monday afternoon. Shore Sports Zone has the video highlights.
CBA ICES DON BOSCO FOR STATE CROWN
Baseball powerhouse Don Bosco Prep came into the Non-Public “A” state championship game at Toms River East on Sunday game with a 29-0 record and a national ranking. But Christian Brothers Academy, led by pitcher Luca Dalatri, were unfazed. Dalatri threw a complete game, striking out 12, and added a solo homer in the fifth as the Colts stopped the Ironmen cold, 7-0. CBA TOPS RBC FOR SCT BASEBALL CROWN
In a game rescheduled twice for rainouts, Joe Gargana and Kenny Campbell combined on a four-hit shutout as Lincroft’s Christian Brothers Academy blanked rival Red Bank Catholic, 4-0, to win its second straight Shore Conference baseball title at Toms River North Thursday evening. Rumson-Fair Haven Regional’s boys cruised to an opening-round win in the Shore Conference Tournament Tuesday. It was the only game played in either bracket as morning snow cancelled school across most of the Shore Conference. Getting the game in on Tuesday gives the Bulldogs a critical day of rest as they get set for a showdown with Red Bank Regional on Thursday night in Little Silver. Two fighters, one not yet old enough to drink, dance around the center canvas of an elevated ring, gymnasium lights shining down on them as they trade uppercuts and jabs, each desperate to avoid elimination as a boisterous crowd eggs them on.
Welcome to the world of the Golden Gloves, an old-school, 85-year-old amateur boxing tournament that provided a springboard to such notable pugilists as Mike Tyson, Joe Lewis, Evander Holyfield, and a certain young fighter named Cassius Clay.
After a stop at Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft last weekend, the annual New Jersey Golden Gloves tourney continues at the Middletown Township Police Athletic League facility Saturday night.

The Red Kettle Classic is a day-long series of elementary-school basketball games taking place from early in the morning each December at the Salvation Army gym in Red Bank.
This year’s edition, the eighth annual, held Saturday, featured boys’ and girls’ teams from Holy Cross and Forrestdale schools in Rumson; Knollwood School in Fair Haven; Seashore Academy in Long Branch; and Red Bank Charter School and St. James School in Red Bank.
In the large-school division, the Holy Cross boys beat Forrestdale, and on the girls’ side, Knollwood won for the fourth time in eight years over Forrestdale.

FOR LIFEGUARDS, A DAY AT THE BEACH
The sand, and ponytails, went flying at the 27th annual All-Women Lifeguard Tournament at Sandy Hook on Wednesday.
Hosted by Gateway National Recreation Area, the tourney billed as the oldest in the United States pits female lifeguards from oceanfront, river, bay, lake and pool lifeguard squads against one another in 10 events designed to highlight fitness, skills, strength and endurance.
