The SOURCE Foundation at Red Bank Regional High School has announced its fifth annual Casino Night on Saturday, March 21, 2015. This year’s event, scheduled for 7 to 11 pm, will be hosted at Salt Creek Grille, located at 4 Bingham Avenue in Rumson.
Proceeds from the 2015 event will benefit The SOURCE, RBR’s School Based Youth Services Program. The mission of the 501c3 SOURCE Foundation is “to remove all obstacles that impede the success of young people in the community.” This is accomplished by offering services free of charge to students and their families, including individual, group and family counseling, preventative medical and dental care, academic support, scholarship opportunities, and recreational and cultural events.
Planning the upcoming fashion show and luncheon to benefit the Latino Scholarship program at Red Bank Regional are Linda Ensor, RBR Source supervisor Suzanne Keller, Dede Rumph, Didi Friedman, Anita Camarano and Rose Powers.

The Andrew Kroon Memorial Scholarship Fund, operating under the auspices ofThe SOURCE at Red Bank Regional High School, has been helping to make dreams come true for more than ten years. The program assists qualifying Latino students at RBR in affording their dream of college, and to benefit the scholarship, the foundation is sponsoring a fashion show and gift auction on Sunday, February 8.
Scheduled to run from from 12 to 3 pm at Buona Sera Ristorante in Red Bank, the event will spotlight fashions furnished by The Sport Spot in Shrewsbury and Posch Boutique in Rumson. Also featured will be a 50/50 raffle, raffle basket auction and coffee bar, as well as exquisite one-of-a kind jewelry by LeCharme.
Suzanne Keller, Red Bank Regional’s Director of the SOURCE program was recently honored by the Latino American Association of Monmouth County at its Twenty First Award Banquet, held on October 24.
Through her work at RBR’s School Based Youth Service Program, Ms. Keller has helped further the dreams and aspirations of the school district’s Latino students. One of her many responsibilities includes administering and fundraising for the Andrew Kroon Memorial Scholarship Fund. In her collaboration with the Latino American Association and the Community Affairs Resource Center, more students are able to achieve their goal of higher education. She also coordinates a mentoring program in the community to help graduates succeed at college and to develop to their full potential.
The Latino American Association of Monmouth County is a non-profit organization established to provide scholarships to college bound students. Several RBR graduates received scholarships at the banquet event, including Veronica Perez, Mariela Reyes, and Jocelyn Rojas.

The phrase “lazy days of summer” does not apply to Red Bank Regional High School — at least in the mornings when the school is abuzz with various programs to maintain and sharpen student skills for September.
The largest program is Summer Slam, with over 90 students representing all sending towns of the regional school district. This year marked Summer Slam’s 14th year of operation in preparing incoming freshmen for the very different world of high school. The program runs throughout the month of July, for four mornings a week. It is operated by the Source, RBR’s School-Based Youth Services program, and supervised by the Source Director Suzanne Keller. Ms. Keller is also the director of the RBR Freshman Academy, which provides continuity for the school’s newest students once they begin their high school careers.
Ms. Keller states of the program, “Summer Slam is primarily an academic program to prepare our kids for the rigors of high school and bridge the skill slide that research shows occurs during school vacations. It is also a great opportunity for kids to meet their classmates from other towns, so they will know just a few more faces, including their teachers, when the doors officially open for their first year of high school.”

At its year-end reception, Red Bank Regional High School’s school-based youth services program The Source honored individuals who have positively impacted the lives of RBR students during the year. The Source and its affiliates also awarded over $28,000 in scholarships to students.
With an emphasis on the overall optimal health of the students at Red Bank Regional, The Source is a comprehensive program that includes mental health counseling, preventative medical, dental and eye care, employment opportunities and learning support.
RBR Source Director Suzanne Keller recognized RBR math teacher Sunny Lenhard with the “Outstanding Service Award” for recognizing a need in the community, and helping to implement a program to address it. With Mrs. Lenhard’s assistance, the Source was able to organize a community-based tutoring program to aid students who could not access that help offered at the high school building after school hours. She, along with five of her colleagues and RBR National Honor Society students, tutored the students two evenings a week. A second recognition, the Community Partnership Award, was given to Lori Hohenlietner, Executive Director of Horizons Student Enrichment Program, which provided assistance for Mrs. Lenhard’s envisioned tutoring program. In addition, Horizons, a member of the Source Advisory Board, also contributed toward the Andrew Kroon Memorial Scholarship Fund; which for eight years has helped Hispanic students achieve their dream of attending college.
In partnership with the Horizon Student Enrichment Program in Rumson, and donated space in the River Street Commons, the RBR SOURCE was able to create a valuable evening tutoring program for students in the community.

Red Bank Regional High School offers many opportunities for their students to excel and succeed, including after-school tutoring at the high school. Recently, though, math teacher Sunny Lenhard identified an unmet need.
“One day I had two students at my door at 7:30 in the morning, asking, pleading for help,” she recalls. Their homework paper was worn through from their constant erasures. They exclaimed, ‘We can’t go to after-school help because of sports and no one for ten miles around here knows how to help with this math!’”
She discovered that other students had similar needs — especially if they had to leave directly after school for work or home obligations. She mentioned the issue to Suzanne Keller, Freshman Academy Supervisor, and director of THE SOURCE, RBR’s School Based Youth Services Program, whose mission is “To remove all obstacles that impede the success of young people in the community.”
Ms. Keller presides over the SOURCE’s community advisory board, and brought the need to that entity. Lori Hohenleitner, the Executive Director of Horizons Student Enrichment Program (based in Rumson) and The SOURCE advisory council member, thought this presented a great opportunity to help out RBR and also fulfill her organization’s desire to expand their services at the high school level.
On Saturday, April 26, the Red Bank Regional High SchoolRed Bank Regional High School Source Foundation will hold its first annual Bowling Classic to benefit the Albert E. Martin, Jr., Scholarship fund. The event takes place at Brunswick Zone, 1400 Route 36 in Hazlet, at 12:30 pm.
Albert Martin was a much beloved young man and captain of the RBR Boys’ Basketball team. He died suddenly from a heart issue in December of 2012. The RBR community hopes to forever honor him with this scholarship given to a deserving student each year in his memory. His family members are active participants in this fundraising event. The Source Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.
A $20 ticket includes shoe rental, playing time and lunch. Music will also be provided by D.J. Mike. Last year, the Red Bank Regional School Community as most of the shore area, was totally immersed in helping its own members have a bit of a happy holiday season while they weathered the destructive consequences of Superstorm Sandy. This year, the generosity for their struggling neighbors continues with an outreach to many other charities.
RBR continues to help its own by reprising the Holiday Giving Tree, which was originally established last year to benefit RBR’s families most affected by Sandy. This year it helps all RBR families that could most benefit from the community’s generosity for the holidays. Patrons pick a hand-made ornament on the tree which designates a gift card that families have indicated they could most use. The tree was a collaborative effort by the RBR Guidance Department, Media Center, The Source and Administration.

During one day in July, rising Red Bank Regional (RBR) freshmen were running relays across the cafeteria floor, and dropping for push-ups in a mini-version of boot camp. The next period they were team-drawing a pictorial class story. Students also participated in experimentation with percussion instruments creating a short acoustical symphony. Fun turned to social awareness as they learned about environmental advocacy and the mission to help feed the less fortunate with dignity at Soul Kitchen, the Red Bank Community restaurant.
These programs were all part of a special day of guest visitors who shared their skills and knowledge with Red Bank Regional’s Summer Slam, a freshman transition program which is operated by The SOURCE, RBR’s School-based Youth Services Program.

Suzanne Keller of Red Bank Regional (RBR) was recently honored by the non-profit Community Affairs and Resource Center (CARC) with its Partner in Youth Development Award, for her work as the high school’s SOURCE coordinator. The SOURCE is RBR’s School Based Youth Services Program, which provides students with a range of services from quality mental health counseling to learning support initiatives. CARC, formerly the Hispanic Affairs & Resource Center, is a social services organization operating in Asbury Park, Freehold and Red Bank.

Little Silver: In addressing an assembly of anxious incoming freshmen representing the school class of 2017, the Red Bank Regional (RBR) Student Council President, Dan Lloyd, made them a promise. He stated, “You are going to have the best four years of your life,” adding, “This school has given me so much. It will be a lot of hard work but you guys can get it done.”
Their new principal, Risa Clay, encouraged them to get involved, and their Superintendent, Jim Stefankiewicz asked them to “just give us your best and we will be here to help you.” Freshman Academy Supervisor Suzanne Keller explained the concept of the Freshman Academy and gave them the schedule of the day. Then they were off.
