Winding down the summer, PieHole seeks out a cooling oasis at the end of an oppressively hot and humid day and finds sweet reward at Strollo’s Lighthouse in Red Bank.

Wedged, literally, at the junction of Rector Place, Bridge Avenue and Riverside Avenue, the ice cream shop is a beacon to behold at the foot of Cooper’s Bridge.

RED BANK: DE-ICING FOR DE REOPENING

When Kevin Valerio announced the annual re-opening of his Strollo’s Lighthouse Italian Ice business in Red Bank last week, daytime temperatures were peaking around 70 degrees. So he didn’t expect the stand, at Rector Place and North Bridge Avenue, to be encrusted in American ice and snow that he and his employees would have to hack away at with less than 24 hours to go.

ON THE GREEN: SPRING? KEEP YOUR SHIRT ON

rb maple cove 030916According to the National Weather Service, temperatures were peaking at 81 degrees on the Greater Red Bank Green when we snapped this photo at Maple Cove in Red Bank shortly before 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon. Someone, apparently, is ready for winter to end.

Thursday’s expected to be not quite as warm, with top temps of about 75 under partly cloudy skies, the Weather Channel says.  (Click to enlarge)

 

ON THE GREEN: SPRING ON THE HORIZON?
