Less than a three weeks after a narrow loss at the polls, Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Koch won unanimous appointment to the Fair Haven council Monday.

She replaces Councilman Rowland Wilhelm, who stepped down with two years remaining on his third three-year term.

911 DISPATCH STILL AN ISSUE IN FAIR HAVEN

It’s been close to two years since Fair Haven jobbed out its emergency dispatching services to the Monmouth County Sheriff’s 911 Communication Center, and so far, not so good. Still.

“We’re no more satisfied than we were last year,” said former fire chief Jim Cerruti.

Councilman Rowland Wilhelm said Monday that it comes down to clarity of the calls and delays in the calls being relayed to fire and first aiders.

Wilhelm, along with police and fire representatives, is scheduled to meet with county officials today (Thursday) “to try and allay these issues or straighten them out the best we can.”

Among the participants when the Fair Haven council held its annual reorganization meeting Saturday afternoon were two people who didn’t really plan on being there a couple months ago.m-howell

On the dais was Rowland Wilhelm, who somewhat unexpectedly found himself on the election ballot in November following the death of Councilman John Lehnert.

And borough Administrator Mary Howell, right, was at her usual seat in front of the dais, taking notes and answering questions from the audience, even though she gave notice in September that her last day on the job was to be December 31.
