A hearing on a plan to erect a giant digital billboard at Red Bank’s northern gateway has been put off until late summer.

UPDATE: The May 18 zoning board meeting has been cancelled, according to a May 17 notice on the borough website.

Formerly known as Azalea Gardens, with a new name to be determined, the 16-home project now pairs longtime owner Ray Rapcavage with borough-based developer Roger Mumford, who’s built more than 4,000 homes in his career.

But Outfront Media LLC may use the permit simply to block competitors, a company official testified to the zoning board.

PUMPS BACK ON IN RED BANK

Seems so long ago — at least in terms of soaring fuel costs — that the Raceway gas station at the north end of Red Bank pulled its pumps and shut down.

But that was only last December, when gas, you could say, was cheap: somewhere just below the $3 a gallon mark.

Now, five months and about 75 cents a gallon to the upside later, the longtime filling station is ready to get its nozzle back in your tank.
