The girls’ soccer teams of Red Bank Catholic and Ocean Township faced off Thursday in a game with meaning beyond the score. A “different dynamic” than that of the regular season pervades the Maroon & White girls’ basketball team camp now underway at Red Bank Regional High, one of the participating coaches tells Rich Chrampanis of the new video-based website Shore Sports Zone.
With top players from across the state and recruiters from some 30 colleges present in Little Silver, scholarship hopefuls are getting good exposure, and a leg-up from teammates who’ve already committed to particular schools, says RBR girls’ coach James Young, who organized the showcase.
Jamie Gordinier, a highly touted linebacker at Red Bank Catholic, will get to play his senior year without having to deal with pesky recruiters, now that he’s given an early decision to attend the University of Miami after he graduates from high school. As a child with a life-threatening blood vessel disorder, Kasey Kennedy found herself with a decision to make four years ago. The Make A Wish Foundation was offering to fulfill whatever wish she might have.
But having spent a lot of time in hospitals with other kids, Kasey decided she want to help make their wishes come true, rather than her own.
Why, when she could have indulged in her own fantasies? “Because I met friends in the hospital,” she told redbankgreen.

Red Bank Catholic High School will increase its annual contribution for shared use of the playing surfaces at borough-owned Count Basie Field to reflect the cost of more artificial turf, town officials said Wednesday night.

Theft occurring on 12-10-10 at W. Front St.-Riverside Gardens Park. Unknown person took a pocketbook which was placed on ground. Purse described as a black leather bag containing two Apple Nano Ipods, cash, keys and I.D. Lt. Michael Clay.
Theft occurring at Broad St. on 12-10-10. Victim reported that unknown subject(s) stole purse from shopping cart. Purse described as a navy blue floral print bag containing credit cards, prescription and various ID. Ptl. JamesDePonte.

Shrewsbury product Ryan Kalish has been on fire this week, his first in major league baseball.
Five years after going straight to a Boston Red Sox farm team from Red Bank Catholic, Kalish was called up to Fenway Park from his post in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, to start against the Detroit Tigers last Saturday. In his first trip to the plate, he drove in a run with a single that shattered his bat.
Since then, he’s been “superb,” says the suburban Beantown Daily News Tribune. Going into last night’s game against the Cleveland Indians…
He was 7-for-13 in his first four games, and his batting average of .538 is the highest in Red Sox history through four games – Ted Williams is now third with a .444 average while Morgan Burkhart is down to second with a .533 mark.
Last night, he went 1-for-3, bringing his average to .471.
Tonight, locals are hoping to see their hometown standout under the lights at Yankee Stadium in the kickoff of a crucial series between the archrivals.
