A study of downtown traffic is up for discussion at the Red Bank council’s workshop session Wednesday evening.

The data to be gathered is expected to be useful for future parking, pedestrian and other initiatives, borough Business Administrator Ziad Shehady tells redbankgreen.

Not for the first time, Little Silver officials have taken up the question of what to do with a short, narrow roadway that’s a vestige of 19th-century life.

Some residents want it turned into a one-way to address the issue of today’s “humongous” family cars.

RED BANK: ONE-WAY PROPOSAL ADVANCES

A proposal to make a Red Bank street that runs past the proposed Walgreen’s site into a one-way got a positive reception at the borough council Wednesday night.

Backed by a petition that was said to have “100-percent support” from homeowners along the affected streets, the pitch called for Garfield Place to become a one-way heading west from Grant Place until it meets the edge of the former Rassas auto lot, where Walgreen’s has proposed building a 14,2000-square-foot pharmacy.

From there to Broad Street, Garfield would remain a two-way.
