M’SOUTH EDGES RFH; RBC SQUEEGEES COLONIA

Rich Chrampanis and the video cameras of Shore Sports Zone got to seven rainy games in Monmouth and Ocean counties Friday night, starting at Middletown South, where the Eagles hosted Rumson-Fair Haven in a matchup of unbeaten 2016 state champs. In the end, a missed point-after-touchdown, lost fumbles and a swarming Eagles defense made the difference in the 14-13 outcome, with the Eagles now 4-0.

Across the river at Count Basie Field, Red Bank Catholic played host to Colonia, and quickly established dominance on a fumble recovery that led to a one-yard TD. Third-string QB Nick Brusca was dominant, posting three running TDs. Final score: 35-0.

As previously reported, the Holmdel v. Red Bank Regional game scheduled for Friday at Little Silver was postponed due to illness on the Holmdel squad.

COLTS ARE TOPS AGAIN AS DALATRI WINS 35TH

Christian Brothers Academy pitcher Luca Dalatri broke the all-time Shore Conference wins record with a complete-game shutout against Middletown South in Lakewood Wednesday. Shore Sports Zone has full highlights and post-game coverage of the Colts’ 2-0 win  for their third consecutive Shore Conference baseball championship.

The right-handed Dalatri now has 35 victories, and is expected to be selected during the MLB Amateur Draft which begins on Thursday night.

dan corey 2A college journalist from Lincroft has landed one of the biggest “gets” in the media world: a sit-down with President Obama.

Dan Corey, a 19-year-sophomore at Rutgers University in New Brunswick and editor-in-chief of the Daily Targum, asked for the interview when the president called on him at a White House event last Thursday, according to a report by NorthJersey.com, the website of the Record of Hackensack.

M’TOWN: TEACHER DUMPED OVER TRUMP VIDEO

In the February 28 edition of his cable show,“Last Week Tonight,” comedian John Oliver urged viewers to “make Donald Drumpf again.”

HOT-TOPIC_02A Middletown High School South history teacher has been forced to resign for showing students a video of comedian John Oliver skewering Republican presidential candidate Donald Drumpf… er, Trump.

According to various news reports, including the New York Post and NJ.com, the forced resignation of Joe Ventre drew protests from supportive students and parents at the school’s board of trustees meeting Wednesday night.

M’TOWN GIRLS BEAT RBC FOR AILING COACH

With head coach Tom Brennan out indefinitely with medical issues, Middletown South’s girls basketball squad came from behind to beat Red Bank Catholic, 46-43, to reach the WOBM Christmas finals Tuesday. Haley Dalonzo and Stephanie Karcz each scored 13 points, and Alexandra Balsamo blocked a shot in the final second to preserve the victory.  Shore Sports Zone has the video highlights. MIDDLETOWN SOUTH BLANKS RBR ON ICE, 5-0

Middletown South held Red Bank Regional scoreless as Gavin Gulash and Ryan Lambert each scored two goals on the ice at the Red Bank Armory Saturday.

M’TOWN SOUTH GIVES COACH 300TH OVER RBC

Stephanie Kracz racked up 27 points as Middletown South’s girls’ basketball team notched a 59-45 victory over Red Bank Catholic in semifinal action of the WOBM Christmas Classic in Toms River Sunday. The victory marked a milestone for Coach Tom Brennan: his 300th win. Shore Sports Zone has the video highlights.

South will now face defending tournament champion Manasquan for the title on Tuesday.
