rb k9 rugger 092414 3The Red Bank police department has a new, four-legged member, thanks to mattress millionaire Michael Fux.

A fundraising drive launched earlier this month to create a new K9 unit came to an abrupt end Wednesday night when the town council accepted a $38,000 donation from Fux (pronounced ‘fyooks’) and his wife, Gloria Rubin, to cover nearly the entire cost of a police dog, a specially equipped vehicle to transport it and training for the dog and his handler.

The dog has already been acquired. He’s an 11-month-old male German shepherd named Rugger by his new master, Patrolman Stan Balmer. The two are off to 16 weeks of K9 school in Long Branch starting Monday.

“We’re already bonding,” said Balmer, a former rugby player, or “rugger,” as he showed off cellphone photos of his new partner.

michael fux 091011 1A rare Ferrari Enzo owned by foam-mattress maven Michael Fux was badly damaged in a crash on I-95 in Stamford, Connecticut, Tuesday morning, according to numerous reports.

Fux, 71, was not in the car, which was driven by a mechanic when it spun out on the interstate and smashed into the divider, causing heavy damage, according to the Stamford Advocate. The driver and a passenger suffered minor injuries.

Britain’s Daily Mail has post-crash photos of the car.

Fux became familiar figure in downtown Red Bank both for his investment in the now-closed Blue Water Seafood restaurant on Broad Street and his propensity to park his expensive Rolls-Royces, Lamborghinis and Aston-Martins out front.

SWEET RIDES, AND PAULIE WALNUTS, TOO

Foam-mattress maven Michael Fux (pronounced ‘fyooks’) pulled off his hurricane-delayed exotic car show in downtown Red Bank Saturday afternoon, showcasing 52 cars from his collection of 114 top-end Rolls Royces, Lamborghinis and Ferraris in a bid to raise money for two of his favorite charities.

Owners of another 25 or so exotics supplemented the event, which also featured actor Tony Sirico (‘Paulie Walnuts’ of ‘Sopranos’ fame) posing for photos with anyone who asked. The borough government closed off the north end of Broad Street for six hours for the event.
