RBR VOICES JOIN IN HONORS CHORUS

Two vocal majors from the Visual and Performing Arts Academy at Red Bank Regional High School have been selected to be part of the prestigious All Eastern Mixed Chorus. The two RBR students — Erin Ostrowski of Little Silver, and Jade Glab of Belmar — were selected from the ranks of students who earned spots in the New Jersey All State Chorus held earlier in the year.

Erin and Jake will join the 350 other students in the mixed chorus out of 1700, representing 11 northeastern states as well as the District of Columbia. The chorus is affiliated with NAfME, the National Association for Music Education.

ON THE GREEN: SEVEN GIRLS, OFF TO HELP

donegoodlogoA year after helping to build a water line to a remote village in the Dominican Republic, seven seven sophomore girls from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional and Red Bank Regional high schools plan to travel to the Caribbean nation again Wednesday.

The girls, who travel with their fathers and pay their own way, raise all of the funds for their humanitarian missions themselves, according to Mara Campolattaro, one of the participants. All the money raised goes directly to funding projects for things like supplies, local expertise and transportation on the island, she said.

Summer vacation may already be a distant memory borne away on a suddenly seasonal Navesink breeze — but to the students of the Visual and Performing Arts Academy at Red Bank Regional High School, the activities of the school-year break continue to impact the new academic year in the most positive ways.

“Our students never cease to amaze me with their level of dedication and pursuit of perfection for their craft,” observes VPA lead teacher Kris Zook. “I am always delighted to learn what wonderful programs they attended or experiences they had in pursuit of higher performing art achievement.”

RBR VOICES RING OUT THE YEAR ON HIGH NOTE

The year 2015 was a banner one for vocal majors from the Visual and Performing Arts program at Red Bank Regional High School, who were named to several honors programs, and took part in several prestigious regional programs this year. The new year promises to begin on a high note as well, as RBR sends its talented students to perform in several other honor programs.

Fifteen Red Bank Regional students will be part of the prestigious New Jersey All Shore Chorus, when RBR once again hosts the honors ensemble’s annual performance in February 2016. RUMSON DADS, DAUGHTERS ARE THERE TO HELP

For years, Mara Campolattaro of Rumson had asked her dad, eye surgeon Dr. Brian Campolattaro, to take her on one of his trips to Latin America, where he performed mission surgery as a pediatric ophthalmologist with the ILAC (Institute for Latin American Concern) organization. When Mara — a freshman at the Red Bank Regional High School Visual and Performing Arts Academy — turned 14, he acquiesced, inviting her on a humanitarian mission to the Dominican Republic.

The Campolattaros soon got inspired to invite six of Mara’s Rumson friends — Paige Borden, Caroline Healey, Hannah Horan, Annabel Morris, Maddie Orr and Olivia Turi, all freshmen at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School — as well as their dads. The girls named themselves and the mission “HereToHelp,” and with the assistance of the ILAC, the team set about identifying a village that was in need of their energies.

RUMSON: HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS (T)HERE TO HELP

HereToHelpA group of seven high school students from Red Bank Regional and Rumson-Fair Haven Regional will be joining their fathers on a humanitarian mission to the Dominican Republic in November. For fourteen years, Dr. Brian Campolattaro, a Rumson resident and professor at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in Manhattan, has performed vision restoring surgery in the Dominican Republic. His daughter, Mara, a student at Red Bank Regional High School, has always wanted to help — and this year came up with the idea for a special mission that would allow both father and daughter to volunteer their energies there in the second-poorest country in the western hemisphere. When she shared the idea with her friends, they and their fathers eagerly came on board.

On November 4, Mara will be part of a group of seven girls from RBR and Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School who will make the trip to the Dominican Republic, accompanied by their dads. They won’t be spending any time at the beach, however — instead, the father-daughter teams will be constructing an aqueduct to bring clean water to a remote village that is in desperate need.
