liberty hose 120513 2A new, million-dollar ladder truck, firehouse consolidation and pervasive manpowwer issues are on the table as Red Bank’s next fire chief takes the helm on January 1.

For chief-elect Tommy Welsh, it’s the second time around as head of of the all-volunteer department, having served as chief in 1996. This time, however, the department is on the apron to some of its biggest changes in a generation.

“We’re in the middle of some history here,” he told redbankgreen at a party to celebrate his election last week.

HOODS UP AT DOC HOLIDAY CAR SHOW

More than 300 eye-catching cars, and a handful of motorcycles, shone under the summer sun on White Street in Red Bank Sunday as the Liberty Hose fire company held its tenth annual Robert ‘Doc’ Holiday Car Show.

The event is a fundraiser for annual college scholarships in the name of the late firefighter name and for the volunteer company itself. (Click to enlarge)

FIRE COMPANY CAR SHOW SHINES AGAIN

The ninth annual Bob ‘Doc’ Holiday Classic Car Show, organized by Red Bank’s Liberty Hose Company, motored into the White Street municipal parking lot under a sparkling blue summer sky Sunday.

The event, which raises funds for the volunteer company’s operations, drew a record 350 cars and motorcycles despite competition from two large car shows elsewhere in the Shore region.

NOT AN EMPTY SPOT IN THE LOT

In spite of wilting heat, the eighth annual Liberty Hose fire company car show drew some 320 exhibitors and several thousand spectators to the White Street municipal lot in Red Bank Sunday. We’ve got pix.
