UPDATE: Because of rain in the forecast, this Saturday’s Hispanic Heritage Celebration in Riverside Gardens Park has been rescheduled for September 30.

hot topicReversing an action that sparked a civil rights complaint and community outrage, Red Bank Regional High School’s board of ed restored funding for an immigrants’ advocacy student group Monday night.

At special session in the Little Silver school’s cafeteria that drew a large crowd – including Red Bank’s entire governing body – speakers voiced support for the Dreamers Club while denouncing a lone board member’s vote that they said imperiled years of progress.

RED BANK: NEWCOMER LEADS RBR PRESIDENT

Newcomer Stephanie Albanese appears to have displaced incumbent president John Garofalo from the Red Bank Regional High board of education in Tuesday’s election.

As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, the Monmouth County clerk’s incomplete vote tally showed Albanese (seen at right) leading Garofalo, 1,352 votes to 649.

hot topic red bank njRed Bank Regional students and parents packed a board of ed meeting Wednesday night in a bid to save the ice hockey and golf programs from a budgetary axe.

With a preliminary spending plan calling for a 6.5-percent tax increase, board members defended the cuts as necessary before parents appeared to coalesce around a plan to save the sports through outside fundraisers.

RBR: MEET THE NEW SUPERINTENDENT

louis moore 1The Red Bank Regional Board of Education is inviting community members to meet the school district’s new superintendent, Louis Moore, at a meet-and-greet event scheduled for Wednesday, June 15, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the school commons. 

Moore, who starts his new job July 1, has served as the principal of Ramapo High School in Bergen County since 2007.  He was hired by RBR in April to replace Thomas Pagano, who has served as interim superintendent since the June, 2014 departure of Jim Stefankiewicz,

louis moore 1After a two-year interval under caretaker leadership, Red Bank Regional High has hired a new superintendent.

The one-school district’s board last week approved a three-year contract with Louis Moore, the principal of Ramapo High School in Franklin Lakes, in Bergen County.

Moore, who starts the new job on July 1, replaces Thomas Pagano, an Interlaken resident who has served as interim superintendent since the June, 2014 departure of Jim Stefankiewicz, who became superintendent in his hometown of Ocean Township.

RBR APPOINTS PAGANO INTERIM SUPER

TomPaganoThe Red Bank Regional School District has appointed Thomas Pagano of Interlaken as Interim Superintendent, effective July 1, 2014.

At its June 18 meeting, the Red Bank Regional (RBR) Board of Education appointed Thomas Pagano of Interlaken as the district’s interim superintendent. His employment with the district (on a part-time basis) will begin on July 1, when Superintendent Dr. Jim Stefankiewicz leaves RBR.

Last month, the Red Bank Regional Board of Education regretfully accepted the resignation of Dr. Jim Stefankiewicz, who will assume that position in his hometown of Ocean Township.

RBR’S DOHERTY LAUDED FOR 30 YEARS SERVICE

Red Bank Regional (RBR) School Board Vice President  and Red Bank resident Emily Doherty was recently commended by the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) for her 30 years of service to the school district’s Board of Education.  NJSBA Field Representative Kathy Winecoff presented Mrs. Doherty with a plaque at a recent RBR School Board meeting.

Ms. Winecoff expressed that it is very rare to find a school board member with such a long history of service, especially when weighing the amount of pay for the heavy work load.  Board of Education members earn nothing, and receive no benefits for their service to their community.

Mrs. Doherty responded, “It has been thirty years of pleasure…(and) it is a sincere pleasure to be a part of a Board whose members respect one another and put kids first.”

RBR NAMES EX-PRINCIPAL AS NEW SUPER

Jim Stefankiewicz (right) is returning for Act II at Red Bank Regional High School, this time to take the reins as superintendent.

Stefankiewicz, RBR’s former principal, was appointed Wednesday night as superintendent, filling a gap left by Howard Lucks, who left the post earlier this month to tend to his ailing wife.

Former superintendent Edward Westervelt will keep Lucks’s seat warm until Stefankiewicz, who is currently assistant superintendent for the Middletown school district, steps into the new role sometime in April.
