FAIR HAVEN: TOWN RALLIES FOR INJURED COP

Fair Haven residents have rallied for a borough police officer who is reported to have broken his neck in an swimming accident on the Fourth of July.

Patrolman Dwayne Reevey suffered the injury while swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, according to a Go Fund Me campaign launched Friday.

RED BANK: RIVERVIEW PENALIZED

HOT-TOPIC_03Red Bank’s Riverview Medical Center was ranked among the worst hospitals in the nation at preventing illnesses and injuries in their facilities, according to a government report issued last week.

As a result, Riverview and three other Monmouth and Ocean county hospitals will lose one percent of their Medicare reimbursements for the fiscal year that started in October under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare.

MIDDLETOWN: TWO FIREFIGHTERS HURT

Two volunteer firefighters suffered minor injuries in an early morning fire that tore through a Middletown beauty spa early Monday morning, according to a report on the Asbury Park Press website.

Police said one firefighter fell through the second floor, and a second was injured in a fall outside the Orange Skye Wellness Spa on Route 35, opposite Pine Street, where the fire was reported at about 3 a.m.  Both firefighters were treated and released from Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, the Press reported.

RED BANK: FAMED SKATEBOARDER INJURED

A world-renowned skateboarder was seriously injured in a fall on the steps in front of Red Bank Catholic High School Monday night, police said.

Brian Wenning, 32, of Monmouth Beach, was transported to the trauma center at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune with a severe laceration to the head, according to Captain Darren McConnell, police department spokesman.

MEDEVACED RACER OK AFTER BIKE CRASH

A rider in Sunday’s Tour de Fair Haven pro-level bike race suffered superficial injuries in a crash that led to his being helicoptered to a hospital, a race official tell redbankgreen.

The rider, who is believed to have lost consciousness in the crash, was treated for a “major cut above his eye” and remained hospitalized at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune Monday morning, said race founder Michele Berger.

One of the stores opening as part of a surge in new consignment shops in the Red Bank area has an unusual pedigree.

It’s called U Gallery, and it’s an offshoot of Universal Institute, a player in the healthcare industry specializing in services for brain-injured clients.

Huh?

No, that’s not an egregious misprint. Lisa Lasso, who co-owns the rehab and vocational training facility, says a  consignment shop/art gallery can work, and say she has the track record to prove it.
