Red Bank’s transit hub may be getting a fresh splash of color from a well-known street artist.
Actually, three splashes, though it’s already got one: an on-the-spot piece that went up a bit prematurely earlier this month, at least by borough government standards.
The crime reports below were provided by the Red Bank Police Department for the period of April 13 to April 20, 2012. This information is unedited.
Criminal Mischief occurring on 4-13-12 at Broad St. Victim reported that unknown subject(s) threw egg at window of business. Ptl. Matthew Ehrenreich.
Theft occurring on 1-25-12 but reported on 4-13-12 at Leroy Place. Victim reported that a Coleman Air Mattress and a 2010 Electra Mens Cruiser bicycle was removed from his residence by former roommate. Ptl. Patrick Kennedy.
Criminal Mischief occurring on 4-16-12 at E. Newman Springs Rd. Victim reported that unknown person(s) deployed graffiti onto the exterior of building. Ptl. Michael Zadlock.
Not that we condone defacing of other people’s property, of course… but this guy looking down on Broad Street in downtown Red Bank gives us a chuckle.

Red Bank has gang members residing within its borders, and properties here have been tagged in spray paint with gang markings.
But the depth and extent of the borough’s problems with gangs are easily exaggerated, a pair of law enforcement officials suggested on Saturday, when they addressed about a dozen residents on the state of gang activity.
Nearly every community in Monmouth County, including high-income towns such as Rumson and Little Silver, has some gang presence, they said. But over recent years, crime associated with gangs has dropped in Red Bank, and authorities watch closely for signs of rebound, they said.
“Here, it used to be out of control,” said Det. Sgt. Tom Nuccio, a former borough detective who now runs the gang task force at the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s office. “It wasn’t uncommon to have out-of-town help come in on a Friday night to help control the environment. As far as I know, that hasn’t happened in the past ten years.”
