Four Creative Writing majors at Red Bank Regional’s Visual and Performing Arts Academy recently won coveted National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, distinguishing themselves as top student writers in the country. Creative Writing majors in the Visual and Performing Arts Academy (VPA) at Red Bank Regional High School once again earned a bounty of awards in the prestigious National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers.

Four RBR students won national awards, with Jordan Fleming of Red Bank winning a gold medal. Silver medals went to Skylar Eber (Bradley Beach), Willow Martin (Little Silver), and Mya Nunnally (Red Bank).

Every October, the Red Bank Regional High School community looks forward to its multi-cultural club’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage. The school recognizes the many countries that compose the Hispanic American experience for both their uniqueness and rich culture, which is also commemorated with performances by the school’s Visual and Performing Arts students.

This year, RBR senior Guadalupe Luna introduced the event in Spanish (translated into English by Principal Risa Clay), stating, “Most Hispanic and Latinos share one significant item, a common passion for food. To us food represents more than a simple dish. It represents family, sharing and love.”

On October 7 through 11, Red Bank Regional High School celebrated the state-mandated Week of Respect with inspiring poetry, songs, and outreach. In a statement, RBR Principal Risa Clay remarked, “Although the state requires that all schools set aside a week in October to celebrate respect, it is important to remember that our school community practices these values all year long.”

Little Silver: In addressing an assembly of anxious incoming freshmen representing the school class of 2017, the Red Bank Regional (RBR) Student Council President, Dan Lloyd, made them a promise. He stated, “You are going to have the best four years of your life,” adding, “This school has given me so much. It will be a lot of hard work but you guys can get it done.”

Their new principal, Risa Clay, encouraged them to get involved, and their Superintendent, Jim Stefankiewicz asked them to “just give us your best and we will be here to help you.” Freshman Academy Supervisor Suzanne Keller explained the concept of the Freshman Academy and gave them the schedule of the day. Then they were off.
