RED BANK: STIFLING HEAT IN FORECAST

Visitors to the pier in Red Bank’s Marine Park fished, crabbed and sought out relief from stifling heat Monday afternoon.

The discomfort across the Greater Red Bank Green on Labor Day will continue Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. With “feels like” temperatures expected to reach 102 in parts of Monmouth County, the agency issued a heat advisory in effect from Tuesday morning until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

RED BANK: STORMS SPARE REGION

A storm nearing Red Bank from the southwest lit up the sky late Monday, as seen from Madison Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. But most of the Greater Red Bank Green received little or no rain, according to the National Weather Service.

Early risers awoke Tuesday to dense fog, which was expected to vanish by late morning. The NWS outlook for the rest of the day included a chance of light afternoon rain, with otherwise partly sunny skies and temperatures peaking in the high 80s.

RED BANK: WEEKEND WEATHER OUTLOOK

Seagulls kept cool on a sandbar in the Swimming River off Bellhaven Nature Area in Red Bank as ‘feels-like’ temperatures for humans topped 100 degrees earlier this week.

With the heat wave now broken, the Greater Red Bank Green is in for a weekend of sunshine and temperatures peaking at about 80 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Among the many over-the-top Halloween displays to be found locally this season is an overhead canopy of lights shared by neighbors on Brown Place, above, and the lawn setup on Harrison Avenue, right, both in Red Bank.

The season culminates Sunday, when trick-or-treating conditions should be favorable, with a “slight” chance of rain, according to the National Weather Service.

RED BANK: FORECAST IDEAL FOR ‘DOG DAYS’

The weather outlook appears ideal for the 2021 installment of Dogs Days of Summer in Red Bank Saturday.

Organized by the borough’s volunteer Animal Welfare Advisory Committee and Parks and Rec department, the event runs from noon to 4 p.m. in Marine Park, and features live music by the Wag (naturally), as well as contests, pet-care information, vendors and animal welfare organizations.

The Red Rock Tap + Grill on Wharf Avenue, opposite the park, will host a Doggy After Party.

RED BANK: WEEKEND OUTLOOK ‘TRANQUIL’

No, that’s not a forecast map. It depicts snowfall totals from the three-day blizzard that ended 25 years ago today, in 1996. The northeaster is one of only two storms to be classified as “extreme” on the Northeast Snowfall Impact Scale,” a measure of intensity. Who remembers that whopper?

RED BANK: ‘CHRISTMAS STAR’ BRINGS WINTER

Minus their customary caroling, to minimize the spread of COVID-19, neighbors on South Street in Red Bank went ahead with their annual display of luminaria Friday night.

Monday at 5:02 a.m. marked the solstice, the passage from autumn into winter in the northern hemisphere. This year, by coincidence, December 21 is when the two largest planets in Earth’s solar system, Jupiter and Saturn, will appear to nearly merge in the night sky in a rare phenomenon called a ‘Christmas star,’ according to Astronomy magazine.

RED BANK: SNOWPERSON WEATHER

While the big kids sledded, two-year-old Mac Messina of Little Silver was fascinated by a snowman at Tower Hill Presbyterian Church in Red Bank Thursday. In Fair Haven, right, siblings James, Catie and Keagan Straine collaborated on their own snowman.

With temperatures not much above freezing until Sunday, the snowpersons may remain a few days, according to the National Weather Service.

Will the Greater Red Bank Green be among the areas of New Jersey to get an expected snowstorm Wednesday night?

Eastern Monmouth County appears on the outer margin of a region the National Weather Service expects will get up to five inches of snow overnight into Thursday, mainly north and west of Interstate 95.

A day and a half of rain is expected to soak the Greater Red Bank Green starting Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

As Tropical Storm Zeta charged northeast through Georgia early Thursday, remnants of the system were expected to bring sometimes-heavy rainfall to our area before tapering off Friday. With fallen leaves clogging sewers, that could create localized flooding and dangerous driving conditions, the NWS cautioned.

Columbus Day on the Greater Red Bank Green will be a wet and gusty one, according to the National Weather Service.

“A long period of widespread showers will impact the region through Tuesday, producing 2 to 3 inches of rain,” the NWS reported in its early morning forecast Monday. “Nuisance flooding” in low lying areas and wind gusts of 30 miles per hour are also possible, it said.
