HOT-TOPIC_03A native of Fair Haven and a member of the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Class of 2010, swimmer Connor Jaeger made waves on the hometown front when he qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team with a first-place finish and time of 14:47.61 in the 1,500 meter freestyle race.

On Saturday, August 13, the son of Bernadette and Eric Jaeger is scheduled to go for the gold, as he vies in the 1,500 meter event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. While the eyes of a worldwide audience will be focused on the competition down in Brazil, the staff of Connor’s alma mater will be offering fans, classmates and other locals a unique chance to join “Team Jaeger” in a supportive crowd setting.

The New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association has named Mary Beth Coleman of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School as 2013-14 Girls Soccer Coach of the Year.

Each year, the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association and the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association choose one coach from each sport to represent the state of New Jersey for the prestigious “Coach of the Year” awards. Coleman will be honored on March 29, 2015 at a Hall of Fame Luncheon to be held at the Pines Manor in Edison, New Jersey.

On a day that is sure to go down in Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School history, four student-athletes earned outstanding achievements in basketball, indoor track and field, and wrestling.

On Saturday March 1, RFH senior basketball player Jack Herrmann became the 18th student in the school’s history to join the 1,000-point club. Herrmann achieved his 1,000th point during a match-up against American History High School in Newark. Herrmann is the first basketball player in 16 years from the RFH boys team to achieve this honor.

On the same day, senior Jacqueline Gottuso took seventh place in the 3200 event at the NJSIAA/Track and Field Meet of Champions at the Bennett Center in Toms River with a time of 4:59.

George Sourlis, Head Coach for  Girls’ Basketball at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, reached a landmark on Friday, January 24 with his 600th win for the school. The Lady Dawgs prevailed over Holmdel High School in a Class A Central Division game, with a score of 44-38.

The RFH players celebrated the milestone win with balloons spelling out the number 600 and t-shirts imprinted with the number — as well as a commemorative basketball, which they presented to their coach.

Sourlis, who has more wins than any other girls’ coach in Shore Conference history, is currently in his 28th season at RFH. With Sourlis as Head Coach, the Lady Bulldogs have earned 14 Sectional State Titles (ten of them consecutive), 16 Shore Conference Division Titles, five State Group Titles, and five appearances in the semi-finals of the Tournament of Champions.

Flanked by proud parents and supportive coaches, eleven student-athletes from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School recently took a significant step toward turning their dreams of playing on a college sports team into reality.

After being recruited by sports programs and making verbal commitments to colleges and universities, the students “sealed the deal” by signing their letters of intent in the RFH Library on November 20.
