RED BANK: 5K RACE, SYMPHONY TO RETURN

red bank classic 2019red bank new jersey symphony 2019After being mothballed for two years by the COVID-19 pandemic, two events that bring in thousands of visitors to Red Bank are slated to return this summer.

The Red Bank Classic 5K and the New Jersey Symphony concert in Marine Park are among events filling up a calendar wiped clean in 2020 and only partly refilled in 2021.

Things got snippy Wednesday night when Red Bank Mayor Pasquale Menna claimed he was being dissed by two council members.

A routine discussion over a scheduling question briefly turned into the latest in a recent series of episodes in which the mayor squared off against fellow Democrats Kathy Horgan and Ed Zipprich, and they aligned themselves with the council’s lone independent.

RED BANK: A CALENDAR ABOUT, AND FOR, KIDS

For five years now, two venerable institutions of the Green, Prown’s Home Improvement and Dorn’s Classic Images have been putting their heads together to create a calendar that keeps the past alive and helps out a charity or two.

The 2014 edition continues the tradition and includes 14 classic black-and-white photos of Red Bank kids. The images were selected from the Dorn’s collection, curated by George and Kathy Dorn Severini.

RED BANK: The high-energy Marty and the Martians make their debut in a series of Friday night appearances at the Walt Street Pub, playing an upbeat set including hits by Neon Trees, U2, Foo Fighters and more. The show begins at 8 p.m. 180 Monmouth Street.

RUMSON:  Join the electro-acoustic/pop/rock singer Brian Bisbee at Molly Maguire’s Black Point Inn, 132 East River Road, at 9 p.m.

PROWN’S 2012 CALENDAR: A MINOR DISASTER

Who among us isn’t a sucker for nostalgia? And who can resist gawking at the consequences of Mother Nature’s fury?

David Prown, owner of Prown’s Home Improvement, has decided to combine the two for his shop’s third annual Red Bank-based calendar of old photos.

The limited-edition calendar was “inspired by having an earthquake and a hurricane in the same week (along with some pretty good snowstorms earlier in the year,” Prown tells redbankgreen.
