Three Broad Street buildings and a home in the historic district won kudos from the Red Bank Historic Preservation Commission at a ceremony Tuesday night.

Kicking off what members hope to become an annual series, the commission honored property owners in four categories for “adding to the value of Red Bank by adding to the character” of the town, in the words of Chairwoman Michaela Ferrigine.

There’s been no shortage of notable comebacks from Hurricane Sandy in Sea Bright, starting with the front-end loaders that tackled six feet of sand on Ocean Avenue a day after the storm.

The recovery marked a milestone six weeks later with the lightning-fast reopening of Bain’s Hardware, which like every other store and restaurant in this oceanfront town was knocked offline by Sandy. And since then, more than a dozen businesses, some of them new, have added to the downtown’s revival.

Nineteen months later, the saga continues, with the reopening in coming weeks of a three-story building that has lined up two tenants brand new to town: a seafood restaurant and a fitness studio.

The former home of Sea Bright’s post office is up for sale.

The building at 1030 Ocean Avenue, whose tenants included the U.S. Postal Service, is listed at $2.2 million with Stafford Smith Commercial Realty, broker Ray Smith tells redbankgreen.

SEA BRIGHT: FAST AUCTION FOR FORMER GYM

Things are looking up for Sea Bright. The hurricane-ravaged town isnt merely rebuilding what was wiped out by the storm its moving forward and attracting investors willing to bet on its future.

Case in point: the former home of Adrenaline Fitness.

On Wednesday morning, a dozen prospective buyers showed up to place bids on the three-story multi-use building at 1054 Ocean Avenue. Within a few minutes, five of them bid up to the property from an opening $500,000 to $700,000.

Rumson resident Christina Galinos walked away with the prize, for $720,000.

I love the location, and I just think that Sea Bright is a great town that has so much potential, Galinos told redbankgreen afterward. Its going to come back even stronger. Id love to be a part of that.”

RUMSON LOTS TO BE AUCTIONED NEXT MONTH

Two residential building lots created by the November demolition of Rumson’s former police station are expected to yield at least $800,000 for the town.

The borough council agreed Tuesday night to auction the adjoining Center Street lots separately, each with a minimum bid of $400,000, Administrator Tom Rogers tells redbankgreen.

There’s no scaffolding, and few external signs of what’s going on inside, but one of Red Bank’s stateliest business addresses is getting its most extensive makeover in decades.

It’s not just about bringing in Zebu Forno, either. While the popular coffee-slash-bagel-slash pizza spot is relocating to the ground floor from three doors south, a gut-job transformation of office space above has already begun to attract well-heeled tenants that many downtown merchants say they can’t survive without.
