Brendan Barry has made it official. The all-time leading point scorer for Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Basketball signed his letter of intent to play Division One basketball at Dartmouth College on the morning of April 28, in the lower library at RFH.

Basketball coach Chris Champeau, family members, and well-wishers were on hand to witness the event that caps a brilliant four-year varsity career at RFH – 1,812 points, 431 assists, 306 rebounds, 277 successful three-point shots, and 258 steals in 107 games.

A three-year starter, Barry now holds the RFH records for most career points, assists, and steals. During this past season, Barry averaged 25.7 points and led his team to a 23-win season.

VOTE FOR YEAR’S BEST DUNK AND CLUTCH PLAY

Evan Madigan of Red Bank Catholic is among the finalists in Shore Sports Zone “clutch play of the year” balloting for 2016. And the local field is crowded in the race for Shore area “dunk of the year,” including a sweet one by Elijah McAllister of Rumson-Fair Haven.

Polls are open through Friday at 3 p.m., and winners will be announced at SSZ’s Winter Sports Banquet on March 24.

MANASQUAN ENDS RFH SEASON

With a trip to the Central Jersey Group 2 finals on the line, the boys’ basketball team of Rumson-Fair Haven just couldn’t hang with Manasquan, falling 65-46 on Saturday. Brendan Barry had 20 points for the Bulldogs, ending his high school career with a school-record 1,812. Shore Sports Zone was there to capture all the action on video.

 

RFH ADVANCES AS BARRY LEADS BLOWOUT

Hosting Johnson in the Central Jersey Group 2 playoffs, the boys’ basketball team of Rumson-Fair Haven ran wild in racking up a 77-47 victory Thursday night. Brendan Barry led the home team with 30 points, and Shore Sports Zone was there.

R-FH now heads to Manasquan, hoping to avenge a triple-overtime loss that knocked the Dawgs out of last month’s Shore Conference Tournament.

RBC WINS AS HAHN GETS CAREER 1,000TH

Red Bank Catholic’s Eddie Hahn scored 18 to pass the 1,000-point career milestone as the Caseys keep their Shore Conference Tournament hopes alive at home Tuesday.

Hahn hit back-to-back three-pointers in the fourth quarter to reach the milestone and give RBC a 12-point lead. Matawan stormed back and closed it to within two late in the game, but Evan Madigan closed the game out with free throws and give the Caseys a 67-63 win.  Shore Sports Zone has the highlights and post-game reaction. 

With a 9-11 record, RBC can make the tournament field with wins against Jackson Liberty on Friday and Saint John Vianney on Saturday.  

RBC UPSET ENDS RFH 13-GAME WIN STREAK

Rumson-Fair Haven’s Brendan Barry scored 20 in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs surged from a 12-point deficit to take a 0ne-point lead in the final minute. But the Bulldogs just couldn’t put Red Bank Catholic away Saturday. Evan Madigan’s jumper in the closing seconds sealed the 56-55 road win for RBC and ended a 13-game Bulldogs win streak. RFH TOPS RBR AS BARRY LEADS

Rumson-Fair Haven’s Brendan Barry scored 27 points as the Bulldogs used strong defense in the 4th quarter to hold off Ridge Road rival Red Bank Regional in Rumson Saturday. Matt Reardon had 17 for the Bucs and Teddy Sourlis 12 for the Bulldogs, who have now won 12 straight games.  Shore Sports Zone has those highlights and more here.

RFH WINS AS BARRY SETS NEW BAR

Rumson-Fair Haven’s Brendan Barry scored 23 points, including a three-pointer at the first-half buzzer, to make him the Bulldogs’ all-time leading scorer in a 53-48 home victory over Manasquan.

With the milestone, Barry surged past Palvin Williams, a 1973 Rumson graduate who flew in from the Dominican Republic to witness the shattering of a record that stood for 43 years.

RFH CRUISES ON BARRY’S 29

Rumson-Fair Haven’s Brendan Barry delivered 29 points to grab MVP honors for the second straight year as the Bulldogs handed Gill-St. Bernard its first loss of the season, 66-49, in the Hoop Group Boardwalk Showcase in Long Branch Saturday.  Collin McDevitt nailed three straight three pointers in the third quarter to spark a double digit lead. RFH is now 5-1 since Barry has returned from wrist surgery in early December.

RBR WINS, BOTH RFH TEAMS LOSE OPENERS

High school basketball returned to the Greater Red Bank Green Friday night with Red Bank Regional grabbing a win in its season-opener on the road in Wall Township.

Meanwhile, over in Rumson, the Rumson-Fair Haven Lady Bulldogs dropped one to Manasquan, and their male counterparts lost to the Manasaquan boys on the road as R-FH scoring star Brendan Barry sat out the game with an injury.

At a scheduled meeting on April 14, several individual students and athletic teams from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School were recognized by the Board of Education for academic and athletic achievements.

“It is becoming increasingly commonplace for us to begin our meetings here in the auditorium to accommodate all of the students who are accomplishing amazing things,” RFH Superintendent Peter Righi told the assembled students, parents, coaches, and club advisors. “The certificates awarded tonight are not just another piece of paper – they have a much deeper meaning as the ‘end game’ result of a lot of hard work.”

BORDENTOWN ENDS SEASON FOR RFH BOYS

Rumson-Fair Haven Regional’s dream season on the hardcourt ended with a 62-56 loss to Bordentown at home Friday night. Shore Sports Zone has the video highlights.

The Bulldogs can console themselves with the Shore Conference title they won last month. Meanwhile, the Lady Bulldogs are still alive in the state tourney, as are both the boys’ and girls’s teams of Red Bank Catholic.

RFH, CBA TO VIE FOR SCT TITLE

With a 37-29 win over Neptune at Brookdale Community College Wednesday night, Rumson-Fair Haven Regional advanced to Shore Conference Tournament championship game against top-seeded Christian Brothers Academy Friday night at Monmouth U. Trailing 19-17 at the half, the Bulldogs put together a big third quarter to go up, 28-22, and iced the game at the free throw line. RFH ADVANCES TO SEMIS WITH 54-43 WIN

Rumson-Fair Haven Regional bested Freehold Township, 54-43 in a Shore Conference Tournament quarterfinal at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft Sunday. Brendan Barry led the Dawgs with 19. Shore Sports Zone has the video highlights.

Rumson-Fair Haven Regional’s boys cruised to an opening-round win in the Shore Conference Tournament Tuesday. It was the only game played in either bracket as morning snow cancelled school across most of the Shore Conference. Getting the game in on Tuesday gives the Bulldogs a critical day of rest as they get set for a showdown with Red Bank Regional on Thursday night in Little Silver. BARRY SCORES 24 IN R-FH ROMP AT HOME

RFH BARRY GRABS DEBUT SSZ GAME BALL

Rumson-Fair Haven guard Brendan Barry became the first recipient of a Shore Sports Zone Game Ball in high school hoops Wednesday, two days after he set a Boardwalk Showcase record with 34 points against Point Pleasant Beach at Long Branch High School.  Barry captured the voting from fans.  Every Sunday, SSZ lists the top performers from the week and lets the fans choose the most deserving player.
