RED BANK: DE-ICING FOR DE REOPENING

When Kevin Valerio announced the annual re-opening of his Strollo’s Lighthouse Italian Ice business in Red Bank last week, daytime temperatures were peaking around 70 degrees. So he didn’t expect the stand, at Rector Place and North Bridge Avenue, to be encrusted in American ice and snow that he and his employees would have to hack away at with less than 24 hours to go.

Having worked his magic in creating a dazzling new gallery downtown last year, art collector Kenny Schwartz has now turned his attention to a factory on Red Bank’s West Side.

There, in the former home of B&C Custom Wood Stairs and Rail, at the corner of Drs. James Parker Boulevard and South Bridge Avenue, the auto dealer is creating a custom-frame shop to serve walk-in customers, major museums and galleries, including his own Detour Gallery, on Clay Street.

RED BANK: AN ICE START TO WINTER

Rumson-Fair Haven topped South Plainfield in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group III championship game to claim its fourth straight state title Saturday night.

On the final regular-season Friday night of the 2016 high school football campaign, Manasquan topped Red Bank Catholic at Count Basie Field in Red Bank, Raritan beat Red Bank Regional in Little Silver and Rumson-Fair Haven topped Carteret at home.

FOOTBALL: RBC BLANKS RBR, 35-0

In high school football action on a chilly Friday night, Red Bank Catholic welcomed back quarterback Steve Lubischer to the lineup as he threw three touchdown passes in the Caseys 35-0 home win against Red Bank Regional.

ON THE GREEN: STYLISHLY COOL AND BREEZY

ON THE GREEN: A GRAY START TO THE WEEKEND

fh-autumn-colors-102016The vivid colors of autumn, seen here on Ridge Road in Fair on Thursday, are expected to be a bit washed out Friday, when rain, heavy at times, visits the Greater Red Bank Green. As much as an inch may fall, according to the National Weather Service. which could make the “Battle of Ridge Road” football game between Red Bank Regional and Rumson-Fair Haven Regional, in Little Silver, a soggy affair.
