A newly formed semi-pro soccer team plans to play the home matches of its inaugural season this year at Count Basie Fields in Red Bank, the club announced Tuesday.
Sporting neckties that many of them learned to tie just an hour earlier, the members of the Red Bank Middle School boys’ soccer team appeared at the borough council meeting Wednesday night, when they were lauded for a second consecutive undefeated season.

Little Silver officials hope to solve a longstanding problem of access to ballfields with the purchase of a vacant property, under action initiated by the borough council.
But it’s far from a done deal, hinging on financial help from Monmouth County and the property still being available when the town’s ready to make an offer.

Standout athletes from the golf, soccer and swimming programs at Red Bank Catholic formalized big decisions about their futures Wednesday. Shore Sports Zone was there, and has extensive coverage of signing day across Monmouth and Ocean counties.
Top-seeded Rumson-Fair Haven beat Raritan 4-0 to advance to the second round in the boys state Central Jersey Group 2 tournament in Rumson Tuesday evening.
The scoring included a must-see header by Jeremy Nives, and Shore Sports Zone caught it in gorgeous slo-mo.

Saturday was shirt pickup day at Count Basie Fields for Red Bank Rec soccer, and players were treated to a clinic put on by players from the national champion Brookdale Community College women’s soccer team. Rec director Tamila Bumback tells redbankgreen that enrollment in the teams for children in grades three through eight has doubled from last fall, to 80 players, and a few spots remain open.
