The Red Bank Mayor and Council honored the Red Bank Charter School girls basketball team Wednesday night.
The Red Bank Charter School Girls Basketball team went 4-4 during the conference season, securing the number two seed in the conference. After winning the semi-final game at home, the girls went on the road to face the number one seed. Leading the way on the court was one of our 8th grade captains, scoring a school record 111 points this season.

Coming off what Superintendent Jared Rumage called “the most successful year ever in the history of Red Bank Middle School sports,” district officials have also harvested some gold about the relationship of athletics and academics, they said recently.

For years, the Red Bank Regional School district through its educational, and then BUC Backers Foundation has inducted alumni into its Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame. This year, however, a separate and distinct Hall of Fame was established exclusive to its Athletes.

This past year, Red Bank Regional High School Athletic Director Del DalPra was able to secure a $3,500 grant from the Special Olympics Organization with the aim of becoming a Special Olympics Unified School.
RBR joins over 4,300 middle and high schools in the United States which have adopted this program, in which able-bodied kids play side by side with special education children who are intellectually disabled. According to the Unified Olympic website, “Unified Sports is also an integral part of the Special Olympics Unified Strategy for Schools, which was founded in 2008 and funded through the U.S. Department of Education to use Special Olympics as a way to build inclusion and tolerance in schools.”
The winter basketball program included eight special education students from the school’s “self-contained” program, and 18 regular education students. All were equal participants in the program and all had an equally great time playing a competitive basketball game every Tuesday night over the past two months. The name of the team, BUCS, is an appropriate acronym for Buccaneer Unified Club Sports.

Rock star Bruce Springsteen is selling his little-used mansion on the hill in Rumson, redbankgreen has learned.
A notice of contract filed with the Monmouth County Clerk identifies the prospective buyers as Peter and Meghann Marturano, who other records show own a home just two doors away.

Bruce Springsteen is selling one of two neighboring homes in Rumson, and the buyer is a pro basketball player with New Jersey roots, redbankgreen has learned.
According to a contract filed with the Monmouth County Clerk, Springsteen has agreed to sell a Bellevue Avenue property he owns through a trust to Oklahoma City Thunder guard Randy Foye.
Rumson-Fair Haven’s top all-time scorer Brendan Barry will continue his basketball career at Dartmouth, Shore Sports Zone reports. Check out the video showing the secret to Barry’s success here.
Rumson-Fair Haven girls’ basketball coach George Sourlis, the Shore Conference’s all-time winningest coach, announced his retirement Wednesday. Sourlis ends his 30-year leadership of the Lady Bulldogs after five state championships, 14 sectional titles and a record of 653-198, including a 22-7 tally in his final season.

Evan Madigan of Red Bank Catholic is among the finalists in Shore Sports Zone “clutch play of the year” balloting for 2016. And the local field is crowded in the race for Shore area “dunk of the year,” including a sweet one by Elijah McAllister of Rumson-Fair Haven.
Polls are open through Friday at 3 p.m., and winners will be announced at SSZ’s Winter Sports Banquet on March 24.
Two days after their male counterparts fell to the same school, the girls’ basketball squad of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional went up against the Lady Warriors of Manasquan for the fourth time this season on Tuesday, this time for the Central Jersey Group 2 championship. Tori Hyduke led RFH with 15 points, but the Lady Bulldogs were outplayed, as ‘Squan had four players in double digits en route to a 56-30 win. RFH’s season comes to a close with a 22-7 record. With a trip to the Central Jersey Group 2 finals on the line, the boys’ basketball team of Rumson-Fair Haven just couldn’t hang with Manasquan, falling 65-46 on Saturday. Brendan Barry had 20 points for the Bulldogs, ending his high school career with a school-record 1,812. Shore Sports Zone was there to capture all the action on video.
Hosting Johnson in the Central Jersey Group 2 playoffs, the boys’ basketball team of Rumson-Fair Haven ran wild in racking up a 77-47 victory Thursday night. Brendan Barry led the home team with 30 points, and Shore Sports Zone was there.
R-FH now heads to Manasquan, hoping to avenge a triple-overtime loss that knocked the Dawgs out of last month’s Shore Conference Tournament.
All 14 players on the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional girls basketball team got on the scoreboard as the Lady Bulldogs knocked off Delaware Valley, 79-47, in state championship play in Rumson Thursday. Shore Sports Zone was there and caught the hoopathon highlights.
Coach George Sourlis’ squad travels to New Providence on Saturday, seeking a spot in the Central Jersey Group 2 finals.
Red Bank Regional’s Matt Reardon led all scorers with 26 points, but the Bucs had no answer to the hot hand of Ocean Township’s Jake Talarico, who knocked down six three-pointers Monday. Playing at home, the Spartans won, 65-58, to advance in the boys’ B North Central Group 3 playoffs. Shore Sports Zone was there with its video cameras to catch the action.
In other state championship action, the Lady Bucs of RBR topped Steinert, 57-54 to advance in the Group 3 tournament.
In a back-and-forth contest that went into overtime, the girls’ basketball team of Rumson-Fair Haven lost its semifinal matchup against Manasquan, 61-58, in the Shore Conference Tournament on Monday. Shore Sports Zone caught all the great play.
The Lady Bulldogs’ loss came two days after their male counterparts were eliminated, also by Manasquan, in a quarterfinal game that went into triple overtime.

Stephanie Lesko scored 12 points for Rumson-Fair Haven as the Lady Bulldogs routed Neptune, 52-26, in the Shore Conference quarterfinals at Brookdale Community College Saturday. Shore Sports Zone caught the action.
Second-seed R-FH is scheduled to face Manasquan in the semis Monday in Toms River.
Red Bank Catholic’s Eddie Hahn scored 18 to pass the 1,000-point career milestone as the Caseys keep their Shore Conference Tournament hopes alive at home Tuesday.
Hahn hit back-to-back three-pointers in the fourth quarter to reach the milestone and give RBC a 12-point lead. Matawan stormed back and closed it to within two late in the game, but Evan Madigan closed the game out with free throws and give the Caseys a 67-63 win. With a 9-11 record, RBC can make the tournament field with wins against Jackson Liberty on Friday and Saint John Vianney on Saturday.
After the conclusion of their school-record 10-4 regular season last week, the girls’ basketball team of the Red Bank Charter School presented an oversized thank-you card to their final opponent, Calvary Christian of Old Bridge. The note congratulated the Lions on their team play and sportsmanship.
“Several of their girls gave our girls notes last time we played them, so we thought it would be nice to do something for them,” said charter school coach Vern Ford.
Rumson-Fair Haven’s Brendan Barry scored 20 in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs surged from a 12-point deficit to take a 0ne-point lead in the final minute. But the Bulldogs just couldn’t put Red Bank Catholic away Saturday. Evan Madigan’s jumper in the closing seconds sealed the 56-55 road win for RBC and ended a 13-game Bulldogs win streak. Rumson-Fair Haven’s Brendan Barry scored 27 points as the Bulldogs used strong defense in the 4th quarter to hold off Ridge Road rival Red Bank Regional in Rumson Saturday. Matt Reardon had 17 for the Bucs and Teddy Sourlis 12 for the Bulldogs, who have now won 12 straight games. Shore Sports Zone has those highlights and more here.
Rumson-Fair Haven’s Brendan Barry scored 23 points, including a three-pointer at the first-half buzzer, to make him the Bulldogs’ all-time leading scorer in a 53-48 home victory over Manasquan.
With the milestone, Barry surged past Palvin Williams, a 1973 Rumson graduate who flew in from the Dominican Republic to witness the shattering of a record that stood for 43 years.

After being held scoreless for two quarters, Red Bank Regional’s Sadiq Palmer finally notched his 1,000th career point Tuesday, finishing the night with 12 against rival Red Bank Catholic and joining an elite club of 15 RBR hoopsters to pass that milestone.
