Red Bank’s mayor and council won’t meet Wednesday night in observance of Yom Kippur.

Instead, they’ll meet Friday. At 6 p.m.

At Mayor Pasquale Menna’s request, the council agreed on September 28 to postpone its next semimonthly Friday so as not to conflict with the Jewish holy day.

Unlike the last postponement Menna asked for, in August, this one did not incite disputation from fellow Democrats, or complaints by Menna that he wasn’t being shown the “courtesy” such mayoral requests have customarily been granted. This one sailed through.

Friday was chosen after Menna said he wouldn’t be able to attend a Monday meeting, when most council members said they’d be available, because “I’m in Rome visiting the pope.”

So when others are loosening their ties and beginning to unwind for the weekend, the borough government and its most avid watchers will be taking up questions of holiday lights, personnel policies, and a resolution that — if approved —  would specify which properties west of downtown will be included in an area in need of rehabilitation.
