denholtz 080416 18HOT-TOPIC_03Two apartment projects — one next to the train station and the other in the heart of downtown — are scheduled to be heard by Red Bank land use regulators this week.

The first, by Denholtz Associates, would create a 45-unit mixed-use building with a parking garage extending from the taxi dispatch office on Oakland Street the office building shown above, on Chestnut Street.

The proposal is slated to be heard by the planning board tonight at 6:30 p.m. For more details, see redbankgreen‘s coverage from August, when the plan was filed.6-8 monmouth 101615On Thursday, representatives of the Morgan family, owners of a number of downtown buildings, are scheduled to go before the zoning board to detail a proposal for five apartments in the two upper floors of 6-8 Monmouth Street, the century-old structure at the northwest corner of Broad Street, seen above. The plan requires a variance for a change of use from office to residential.

Meantime, a plan to build a Hampton Inn hotel on the vacant site of a former Exxon Station at the foot of the Route 35 bridge was to have been heard by the planning board, but has been rescheduled for November 21. The plan has been kicking around for more than five years, and was derailed by several years of litigation. (Photos by John T. Ward. Click to enlarge.)
