piehole_cravingsWhat do when you’re in the middle of a hot, late-night game of Magic: the Gathering and the munchies hit you?

There aren’t a lot of after-hours choices on the Greater Green, but gamers like Connor Murphy-Smith have gotten into the habit of ordering online from Jr’s in Red Bank to quell their cravings, whether they’re at home or playing at Hobbymasters in Red Bank or the Comic Crypt in Shrewsbury.

Murphy-Smith, a 22-year-old from Fair Haven, tells PieHole there’s one dish he previously had an obsession for but now orders “only” about once a week.

So what’s his go-to? It’s a gooey mess called “bacon burger cheese fries,” consisting of french fries smothered in Kraft Cheese Wiz, crumbled bacon, and chopped sirloin burger.

It’s listed on JR’s sides menu at $7.75, available for delivery, and comes in a cardboard box.

“I like to mix the layers all together before I eat it,” Murphy-Smith says of the fries. He also orders a box of sweet potato fries ($3.95) as a “healthier” side dish, he says.

The greasy box at first appears repellent, but PieHole finds every bite a creamy-salty-savory-munchie-appeasing delight.

Murphy-Smith says he got his co-workers at Two Rivers Title Company hooked on ordering from Jr’s, too, “but they mostly order salads.”

Jr’s, at West Front Street, is open from 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and until 3:30 a.m. Thursday through Saturday. Delivery is available.
