There were no surprises in the local primaries on the Greater Red Bank Green Tuesday, as party-picked candidates won voter endorsements to keep running into November.

In Red Bank, incumbent Councilwoman Kathy Horgan and her newcomer running mate, Erik Yngstrom, were unchallenged on the Democratic ballot. Only 10 of 1,674 party votes cast were write-ins.

Likewise, Republican challengers Kellie O’Bosky Colwell and Brian Hanlon faced no opposition in voting that attracted just 657 ballots, including seven write-ins.

In Fair Haven, as expected, incumbent council members Jon Peters and Rowland Wilhelm,  Republicans, now head into a general election against Democratic challengers Mary Pat Gendelman and Shervyn Von Hoerl.

In Little Silver,14 write-ins were cast in the Democratic council primary, which had no party candidates. Incumbent Republicans Don Galante and Corinne Thygeson are up for re-election.

Republicans Joe Hemphill and Laura Atwell, incumbent council members, had no opponents in Rumson, and may not have any in November, either, as the Democrats failed to post candidates.

In Sea Bright, incumbent Republican Brian Kelly and Jennifer Walsh outpolled Charles Murphy in their bids for two council seats open in November. Democrats wrote in 13 votes as no candidates were posted.

Shrewsbury Republicans once again endorsed incumbents Deidre DerAsadourian and Peter Meyer, who faced no opposition, as was the case for Tom Moran and Erik Anderson, chosen by GOP voters for two one-year unexpired terms available. There were no Democrats up for the two full terms at stake in November, nor for the unexpired terms.

Across Monmouth County, primary voter turnout was under 23 percent, according to the county clerk’s website.

With all 458 districts counted by 11:15 p.m., Hillary Clinton topped Bernie Sanders 58 percent to 42 percent of 52,808 Democratic votes cast for the presidential nomination, and Donald Trump captured almost 84 percent of just 14,621 Republican votes cast.

Presidential vote tallies by town were not immediately posted Tuesday night.
