LITTLE SILVER GETS ITS FIRST DAY IN THE SUN
The Haven is among the acts scheduled to perform at the first-ever Little Silver Day, to be held at the recreational field behind borough hall Saturday. (Click to enlarge)
Others towns on the Greater Red Bank Green have their official celebrations of self — most notably the annual Fair Haven Day that’s now an annual staple. But on Saturday, it’s the Borough of Little Silver’s turn to shine, as the first-ever Little Silver Day celebration prepares to fill a summer afternoon and evening with music, food, fun, games, fireworks and reaffirmation of community.
Presented by the nonprofit Little Silver Charitable Foundation and hosted at the borough’s center-of-town recreational field (behind borough hall and adjacent to Markham Place School), the inaugural event will be free for Little Silver residents, with nominal fees charged for food and beverages. It’s all happening from 3 to 10 p.m., with a scheduled rain date of Sunday, June 26.
The borough’s award-winning food establishments take a spotlight role in the day’s festivities, with participating local merchants including Sickles Market (pulled pork sliders, chicken fingers, corn-on-the-cob, potato salad, baked beans, pickles and watermelon), Little Silver Seafood Company (fresh lobster rolls, seafood sandwiches), the Lighthouse (soft ice cream and Italian ice), and the Turning Point (fresh brewed iced coffee and iced tea). American Water Company will serve water from a “puddle truck;” the Prospect Avenue Acme supermarket will supply soft drinks, and Shore Point Distributors will operate a beer truck in an adult-beverage area.
The live musical menu boasts its own share of local favorites, including Tim McLoone and the Shirleys, the Haven, the Stone Bullets; Pat Guadagno, Rick Dill, Dave McCarthy, Rich Scott, Jeff Dalton, and a group of young Little Silver performers who will share their talents with the audience.
Popcorn and cotton candy will be served throughout the day, and Carvel of Little Silver will present an ice cream eating contest for kids. A dunk tank will give locals a chance to drench Mayor Bob Neff, and other activities for children include balloon animals, face painting, clowns, removable tattoos, a stilt walker, a magician, inflatable bounce house, Bubble-Zone, obstacle course and more.
Tours of the Post Office Museum will be conducted by the Little Silver Historical Association for the duration of the event, and a fireworks display will light up the night sky after sundown.
Attendees can pre-purchase food and drink tickets (including a $100 Family Ticket Package) online here, or buy on-site on the day of the event. All proceeds raised will be dedicated to funding the event, as well as supporting education, recreation and other good causes directly related to Little Silver.
