The locally based community resource Shore House celebrates five years of building hope for people living with mental illness, during a Beacon of Hope fundraising event on Sunday, May 22.

Scheduled for 5:30 p.m., and hosted in the Riverhouse at Rumson Country Club, the event will honor Susan and David Fowler, as well as The Two River Community Bank, in recognition of their support and dedication to Shore House’s mission since its inception. The program will include cocktails by the river, in addition to a live auction featuring opportunities to support Shore House through purchasing wonderful vacation packages, unique tours and events.

Membership in the Long Branch-based Shore House is open to adult Monmouth County residents living with a serious and persistent mental illness. Shore House is not a treatment program or mental health service, but a community that helps its members regain self-worth and confidence, restart their lives, recover and develop new skills and rejoin their communities through jobs, education and service. At Shore House, members find structured opportunities to access housing or health care, and to return to school or employment. Shore House recognizes that members arrive at various points in their lives and recovery.

“Shore House has gained the support of the wider community, and we recognize the Fowlers and The Two River Community Bank for their commitment to our success,” said Shore House board president Susan Sandlass.

“We are proud that nearly 40 percent of Shore House members are employed or attend school,” she added. “These figures are well above the national average.”
