SHREWSBURY: ACME EXITING
Shrewsbury’s Acme Markets store is expected to close by the end of April, NJ.com reports.
The store is one of three in New Jersey and Pennsylvania that the supermarket chain will close based on a decision not to renew expiring leases, according to spokeswoman Danielle D’Elia.
The other two are in Upper Deerfield, New Jersey and Oxford, Pennsylvania. All three will close by April 28, D’Ellia told NJ.com. The company is working with affected employees to transfer them into other stores, she said.
Acme’s acquisition last year of 37 New Jersey supermarkets from A&P, Pathmark and Superfresh gave it three stores within five miles on the Greater Red Bank Green: a longstanding store on River Road in Fair Haven; a former A&P in Little Silver, which it converted to an Acme in November; and the Shrewsbury store, located at 1080 Broad Street.
