Press release from Red Bank RiverCenter
In an annual call for talent, Red Bank RiverCenter is seeking experienced street performers — musicians, magicians, and other entertainers — to entertain downtown Red Bank this summer.
Entertainers will be selected through open auditions and presented through RiverCenter’s popular StreetLife program, now in its 16th year. Interested artists are invited to take part in auditions beginning 6 pm on Thursday, March 10, at the Count Basie Rehearsal Studio (99 Monmouth Street, 2nd Floor) in Red Bank.
Individuals and groups will audition on a first-come, first served basis in the order in which they sign in. Each act should come prepared with 2 minutes of material and a one-page bio and references. Musical groups will audition acoustically, although some amplification will be possible when playing downtown. All performers must be aged 18 or older.
“We are thrilled to be able to hire local talent to continue Red Bank’s position as the stronghold of Monmouth County’s arts and culture,” said Amanda Lynn, RiverCenter’s Program Manager. “The gifted performers in our StreetLife program helped earn Red Bank the designation of Best Downtown Arts District in last year’s JerseyArts People’s Choice Awards. We want to keep that tradition going.”
She continued, “This year we will be bringing back some long-time favorites, but we are also looking to bring in some new talent, too. Based on audience feedback, we are looking for musical groups of 1 to 3 members in a wide variety of styles with a focus on acoustic performance…no drum kits. We’d also like to strengthen the festive atmosphere downtown with other types of performers, including magicians, mimes, dancers, acrobats and other artists we haven’t even thought of.” Lynn emphasized that the acts must be family friendly, and able to perform for 3 hours with appropriate breaks.
Prospective StreetLife artists can get more informationabout the auditions and the program at www.redbank.org.
StreetLife runs every Saturday night in June, July and August from 6 to 9 pm. Artists are paid through a grant from MonmouthArts and RiverCenter funds. There are sponsorship opportunities for this high profile series, and interested parties can find out more by contacting Amanda Lynn at promotions@redbankrivercenter.org or (732)842-4244.
