Fire caused extensive damage to a Little Silver home late Thursday night.

Volunteer firefighters answered the 10:59 p.m. alarm to find the exterior deck and rear first floor of the house at 3 Laurie Drive “fully engulfed,” fire Chief Pete Giblin told redbankgreen.

The occupants of the home were already outside, uninjured, Giblin said.

Firefighters “did an excellent job of holding the fire to the rear first floor of the dwelling and preventing it from spreading to the second floor,” he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but appears to have begun on the deck, Giblin said.

The fire was under control in about 40 minutes, and the last firefighters left the scene at about 2 a.m., Giblin said.

Little Silver’s volunteers got support from Sea Bright, Shrewsbury Hose and Tinton Falls Fire Company Number 1.

Monmouth County records indicate the house is owned by Kathryn Rapp.

A second call that came in at the same time, at the Brave New World store on Oceanport Avenue, was answered by Oceanport volunteers, and turned out to be a false alarm, Giblin said.
