Back from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, Red Bank’s five-year-old Boondocks Fishery is about to get a bit of metro-area exposure.
An ABC Eyewitness News crew led by anchor Lauren Glassberg paid a visit Thursday for a segment on a Boondocks perennial favorite: Spicy Seafood Gumbo..

Glassberg interviewed some locals out for lunch as well as owner Kelly Ryan, who sometimes goes by the name McRyan. When the topic of Hurricane Sandy was broached, Ryan welled up with tears, and the crew stopped filming for a moment.
“I still can’t talk about this without getting emotional,” she said. “It happens every time.”
Boondocks, which fronts on the Navesink River next to Marine Park, was wiped out by the storm, but Ryan rebuilt the business with the help of an Indiegogo online drive and a fundraiser at the Oyster Point Hotel.
The feature is expected to air as a ‘Neighborhood Eats‘ segment on July 24, at around 5:45 p.m., Glassberg said.
The New York Times showed Boondocks a bit of love in a 2010 review.
