Press release from Red Bank Regional High School

Beginning next fall, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will field the first-ever Lacrosse team in its history — and among the players on that inaugural squad will be Red Bank Regional High School senior and Lacrosse Captain Jake Smolokoff. The Little Silver resident, a student in RBR’s Academy of Pre-Engineering, recently signed to play Division One Lacrosse for NJIT, having applied to the Newark-based school with the goal of becoming a civil engineer.

Coach Don Femminella comments on his captain, “Jake is one of the hardest workers and one of the best players to graduate out of the program in the five years I have been here.”

Jake’s career stats as of May 8, 2014 include 114 goals, 76 assists, and 204 ground balls.  He plays both midfield and attack positions. Jake has also excelled in the classroom in a very competitive technology program, where he managed to make honor roll for all four years of high school and gained entrance in the National Technology Honor Society.

He states, “I am extremely excited to go NJIT as it is exactly where I want to be. It will be terrific to play for their first lacrosse team ever, and for NJIT Head Coach Johnson. The fit is perfect academically for me.”
