Electro-pop duo Capital Cities caps a day and evening of environmental awareness activities in Lincroft, as the Spring 2014 Campus Consiousness Tour comes to Brookdale Community College.

Capital Cities, the electro-pop group best known for the hit “Safe And Sound,” will perform live at Brookdale Community College’s Collins Arena on Thursday, May 1, as part of the Spring 2014 Campus Consciousness Tour (CCT).

The event, part rock concert, part environmental action campaign, consists of day and evening activities that entertain while raising environmental awareness. Activities are open to students and community members.

This year’s tour has the theme “Life is Better Outdoors.”  The focus is on supporting campus environmental groups and outdoor clubs, while mobilizing students to protect natural spaces.

Daytime events will take place from noon to 3 pm outside the Warner Student Life Center and Collins Arena. They include an L.L. Bean tent village where visitors will find environmental sustainability information, music and food. Doors for the concert open at 6 pm, and the performance begins at 7 pm.

“It’s an honor to be a part of a tour that combines the joy of live music with a positive message of environmental preservation and sustainability,” said Capital Cities’ Sebu Simonian.  “As we crisscross the country, we are excited to encounter the boundless energy of college audiences and to be a part of using that excitement and enthusiasm to create change.”

“The sponsors will be here to entertain and educate all of us on the many environmental issues associated with keeping the great outdoors great, not only for us, but for future generations,” said William Bruno, director of Event Management and Auxiliary Services at Brookdale.

CCT is a project of environmental nonprofit REVERB. For every picture a student has taken in front of the Better Outdoors Photo Booth, Reverb will make a five-dollar donation to be split between Brookdale’s Environmental Club and The Student Conservation Association (SCA), a national non-profit whose mission is to build the next generation of conservation leaders. The Outdoors Club will receive a L.L. Bean outdoor package valued at $500.00.
