A 79-year-old borough woman was hospitalized following an auto accident in which she was dragged by her own vehicle Tuesday morning, police said.
Nora Archibald, of Alderbrook Road, stepped out of her Volvo station wagon after a fender-bender in which her car rear-ended another one as both headed north on Seven Bridges Road during the heavy snowfall at about 10:45 a.m., said police Chief Dan Shaffery.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Rumson Road.
As Archibald exited her car, however, it continued forward, and the victim became entangled in the seat belt, Shaffery said.
Archibald was dragged a short distance before she became free. Initial reports that she was run over by her own vehicle proved mistaken, Shaffery said.
The car continued across Rumson Road, jumped a curb and came to rest against a tree.
Archibald was transported by medics to Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. No immediate information was available about her condition, Shaffery said.
The driver of the car that was struck, Ed Devine, also of Little Silver, was unhurt.
