BIG FINISH FOR RFH GIRLS TEAMS’ SEASON
The Girls Cross Country Team at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School finished third in the state the Meet of Champions on November 23…while the RFH Girls’ Soccer squad clinched the NJSIAA Group II Championship that same day.
The girls bested Bernards High School at The College of New Jersey with a score of 2-1 to win the second Group II Title in the program’s history. RFH earned its first Group crown in 2008, with the varsity girls ended their season with a record of 16-7-1.
The RFH girls’ varsity soccer players are Schuyler DeBree, Allie Cuje, Janie DeVito, Anna Finn, Caitlin Griffith, Kaitlyn Hess, Meagan McGurl, Lindsay McKean, Olivia Rosenberg, Michaela Borneo, Lindsey Corydon, Allie Geiger, Emma Gill, Caroline Kostecky, Jacqueline Littleson, Morgan Mulligan, Samantha Beaudreault, Catie Clark, Grace Forsyth, and Hanna LoSavio.
Donna Dini and Jeff Herkimer serve as Assistant Coaches for the RFH Girls Soccer team.
Members of the Rumson and Fair Haven Fire Departments and and First Aid Squads provided an escort for the RFH Girls’ Soccer team, as the triumphant team headed home this past Saturday.
For the third time in three years, the Girls’ Cross Country team at Rumson-Fair Haven High School finished the season as one of the best teams in the State. On Saturday, November 23 at the Meet of Champions in Holmdel Park, the RFH girls finished third on the 5000 meter course with 140 points behind Randolph High School (106 points) and Red Bank Catholic High School (113 points).
“We had some great performances today that led us to that bronze medal,” said Coach Tim McLoone. “Senior Megan Hellman finished with a personal record of 19:14. Right behind her was Senior Jacqueline Gottuso, who finished in 19:29. Junior Hannah Anderson, who has been recovering from a toe fracture ran her personal record of 19:39. Junior Rachel Lehnert ran her PR as well for 19:50 and Sophomore Emily Hellman scored for the team with her PR of 20:21. “ Sophomore Fini Satzke and Senior Courtney Howley completed the scoring.
“I’m really proud of this team,” said McLoone. “In the past three years, we have won our division and Sectional title every year. We also took Group II twice and not only qualified for the Meet of Champions but won it in 2011, came in a miraculous 4th last year, and were a very strong 3rd this past Saturday. There are well over 700 high school cross country teams in New Jersey and we ended up number three. That is incredible and we thank this girls’ team for their talent and dedication that enabled it to happen.”
