Twelve aerosol artists and art collectives from all over the region have been invited to take part in the annual Jersey Shore Aerosol Art Battle Against Hunger, a family-friendly afternoon of juried, live-paint graffiti art to benefit the Foodbank of Monmouth & Ocean.

Featuring the participation of three special guest artist-judges — the spraycan specialists known as Demer, Rain and Kasso — the event takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Sunday, October 13, at Colorest Art Supplies in Red Bank.

It’s an encore edition for the popular event co-presented by Vicious Styles — the Trenton-based community site art collective with which Demer, Rain and Kasso are all affiliated — and featuring live music, art demos and a “black book” sketching competition.

Invited competitors Rebel, Dezo, Elan Wonder, Meres td4 5ptz nyc, Shue rsh, Sade tcm, Then one, Komar, Kayle rsh, Toast, Muzik, Site, and the Fresh Collective will be given a theme by the judges on the day of the event. All artists will then be given an equal amount of time to complete their art in their black books, whereupon the judges will critique the art on different criteria (lettering, concept, color, composition, originality and technique). The winner receives a prize package from Colorest.

During the Aerosol Art Battle, the artists will be given an equal amount of time to complete their art on the space provided. Using Montana spray paint and paint markers on surfaces that include canvas, Crescent Graffiti paper and wood, the competitors will be evaluated by the judges, with the winner receiving a package of art materials valued to $500.

While admission to the Aerosol Art Battle is free to the public, the event organizers are asking a monetary donation, or donation of nonperishable food items (no glass containers please). All proceeds will be donated to the Foodbank, and Colorest will continue to collect donations at the store (160 Newman Springs Road) through November 19. Take it here for more information.
