MIDDLETOWN: TWO FIREFIGHTERS HURT

Two volunteer firefighters suffered minor injuries in an early morning fire that tore through a Middletown beauty spa early Monday morning, according to a report on the Asbury Park Press website.

Police said one firefighter fell through the second floor, and a second was injured in a fall outside the Orange Skye Wellness Spa on Route 35, opposite Pine Street, where the fire was reported at about 3 a.m.  Both firefighters were treated and released from Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, the Press reported.

The newspaper said the fire was caused by a heating bed.

From the report:

Firefighters had the fire under control by about 3:45 a.m. and units remained at the scene until about 6 a.m.

Orange Skye and Spa sustained extensive damage and was unoccupied at the time of the fire, [fire department spokesman John] Isaksen said.

The fire is being investigated by the Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office.

About 50 firefighters from Middletown, River Plaza, Old Village and Community fire companies of the Middletown Fire Department responded to the call. The Middletown Fire Department Air Unit and Lincroft, Fairview, and Middletown First Aid Squads also responded, Isaksen said.
