Spotlight-avoiding donors have dropped $5 million into the coffers of Riverview Medical Center‘s foundation, the latest in a recent series of big-dollar contributions to the Red Bank facility.

Here’s the announcement, issued late Monday afternoon:

Riverview Medical Center Foundation today announced a charitable donation of $5 million.

While the donors have requested to remain anonymous, they did say, “This gift is provided to continue the tremendous momentum that has become evident at Riverview Medical Center. It is our hope that this community may continue to experience the comfort of having one of the finest hospitals within one of the most sophisticated health systems in New Jersey.”

David L. Flood, President of Meridian Health Affiliated Foundations said, “To receive this gift is a tremendous honor, and with it many lives throughout this region will be touched.”

The donors have considered Riverview Medical Center and Meridian Health part of their lives for many years and thought it was important to support the growth of the medical center. Tom Gravina, chairman of the Riverview Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees said, “With philanthropic support from the local communities, coupled with the advancements at Riverview, these donations will greatly improve the lives of area residents.”

This gift continues the remarkable philanthropic support of the Medical Center. Within the past two years, Riverview Medical Center has previously received 17.1 million dollars in charitable donations as part of the “Life.Changing.” campaign, which supported the development of a 22,000 square-foot center for surgical excellence in the Blaisdell Pavilion, located on the Medical Center campus.

“We are incredibly proud of how our community continues to invest in the growth and development of Riverview Medical Center,” said Timothy J. Hogan, Regional President of Riverview Medical Center and Bayshore Community Hospital. “Our focus has never wavered on advancing the clinical and technical expertise to provide the best health care experience for our patients, and we feel so fortunate to have such strong community support of that vision.”

In 2012, Richard Saker, the third-generation CEO of the Saker ShopRite chain, and his wife, Laura, donated $1 million. All three couples live in the Navesink section of Middletown.
