HONORING GARDENS OF SEASONS JUST PAST

It may be a little late in the year to stop and smell the roses, tiger lillies and ruby giants.

But for the folks at the Navesink Garden Club, it’s never too late to honor green thumbs.

Earlier this week, the club bestowed its second annual ‘Random Acts of Beauty’ awards on five area residents and businesses for splendid gardens.

Honored in a brief ceremony during Monday night’s bimonthly meeting of the Red Bank council were:

• Peter Ortiz, of 96 Shrewsbury Avenue, Red Bank

• Christopher Placitella, of the law firm Cohen, Placitella & Roth, at 127 Maple Avenue, Red Bank (continuing a tradition of great gardens maintained by the property’s prior owner, Mac Testing & Consulting)

• Michael & Debbie Stasi, of 163 Maple Avenue, Red Bank

• Mark Fiederowicz, of 12 Hubbard Avenue, in the River Plaza section of Middletown

• Carol Hammond, of 78 Hubbard Avenue, in the River Plaza section of Middletown

• Connie Strassburg, of Memphis Pig Out Restaurant, Atlantic Highlands

• Barbara Humphrey, no address given

Mayor Pasquale Menna praised the recipients as “people who have demonstrated exceedingly good taste” in beautifying their neighborhoods.

The club, a member of the Garden Club of New Jersey, meets the third Tuesday of each month at the Atrium at Navesink Harbor on Riverside Avenue in Red Bank. Most meetings are open to the general public. For more information, contact contact Dian Woodroffe at 732.741.3557.
