To the jealous eye, writer and cartoonist Marisa Acocella Marchetto had it all, in a glamorous, sex-in-the-city way — a career as a regular contributor to magazines like Glamour and The New Yorker; a book publishing deal; a fiancee who owned one of Manhattan’s hottest restaurants. But when “having it all” means receiving a diagnosis of breast cancer, things get put into perspective very quickly.

For Marchetto (right), the therapeutic instrument through which she worked to attain that perspective was Cancer Vixen — a “graphic memoir” that details, in classic comic strip style, the very real gamut of emotions and experiences that she lived through as a cancer patient, as a fortysomething bride-to-be, and as a New Yorker in a post 9/11 landscape.

Here during National Breast Cancer Awareness MonthCancer Vixen is out once more in a new paperback edition — and the author will be coming to Fair Haven’s Nauvoo Grill Club Wednesday evening for a discussion and book signing that’s brought to you by River Road Books, that engagingly indie outpost of local culture (and FH nightlife). Today’s edition of Red Bank oRBit has an exclusive conversation with this Rapidograph raconteuse and (locally connected) survivor — and it’s all just an appetizing aperitif for a typically  event-packed week that unfolds before your eyes, right here in oRBit.
