IN oRBit: SURFING SHAKESPEARE

Today’s edition of Red Bank oRBit advances a bit of midsummer mayhem coming up at Two River Theater — an adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream that’s so (literally) outside the box they had to give it an all-new name: Now Are Frolic.

Performed by a cast of 19 local high school kids from the theater’s Summer Ensemble program, this boundary-busting production (going up for two shows next weekend) escapes the stage, taking the show out into all corners of the building — and inviting the audience along for the ride. It’s a wild re-imagining about which it’s being said, “No hallway, no window ledge, no backstage area is off limits” — and we’ve got a first look at it right here.

Also in oRBit, an appreciation — that’s insider-journalist talk for when the interview didn’t come together — of Monmouth County’s own world-renowned surf artist Jay Alders (above). The Belmar-based renaissance guy will be present for a solo retrospective of his work on the Asbury Park boardwalk this Friday, and he’ll be inviting some of his big groovy friends — including Donavon Frankenreiter, the surfing star turned mellow-rock recording artist — for a free mini-concert out on the hardwoods.
