POWER OUTAGES HIT REGION
Power failures affected at least three area towns earlier today, officials say.
An apparent transformer fire on Ridge Road near Hance Road in Fair Haven knocked out juice in Fair Haven and Rumson late this morning, police in both towns say.
The incident “took out half the town,” says Rumson Chief Richard Tobias. JCP&L crews restored power in about 20 minutes, he says.
Almost simultaneously, a downed power line near Prospect Avenue and John Street in Red Bank cut off electricity to the borough’s eastern neighborhoods, says Lt. Eliot Ramos.
Ramos said he believed the power had been restored and that the department had not received calls of any continuing outages in several hours.
