REPORT: GUILTY PLEA IN BANK HOLDUPS
An item in today’s Newsday says a 56-year-old Tinton Falls man arrested last August on charges of robbing five banks including one at the City Centre strip mall in Red Bank faces up to 18 years in prison following guilty pleas yesterday.
Richard Demott admitted in Superior Court in Freehold that he robbed the Two River Community Bank on Water Street two weeks before his arrest, according to the report.
Demott also admitted that between May an August of last year he robbed a Sun National Bank branch in Shrewsbury; Hudson City Savings Bank in West Long Branch; Two River Community Bank in Tinton Falls; and Central Jersey Bank in Bradley Breach.
The report doesn’t indicate whether Demott was armed in the robberies, though he was initially charged with armed robbery.
In the Bradley Beach robbery, the robber passed a note to a teller indicating he had a gun, but none was shown, according to a press release issued by the Monmouth County Prosecutor at the time.
The surveillance photo above was taken during the Bradley Beach robbery on August 19, four days after the Red Bank robbery.
