While federal wildlife hold off on trying to rescue a pod of dolphins that’s been in the Navesink and Shrewsbury rivers for the past five months, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine has rescued a green sea turtle from the lower Shrewsbury, the Associated Press reports today.

The news comes a week after a report of a harbor seal’s appearance in the Shrewsbury near Monmouth Beach.

The AP says the turtle was spotted in the southern end of the river, where it dead-ends into marshland.

The stranding center took the turtle to its facility in Brigantine, and hopes to send it to a warmer climate by Friday, the AP reports.

The turtle appeared to be stunned by the cold, and was moving sluggishly when it was rescued, according to the report.

Last Friday, stranding center founder Bob Schoelkopf reported a harbor seal in the same vicinity. It was acting normally and appeared to be in good health, he said at the time.
