The NFL has confirmed that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will play the halftime show at the Super Bowl on Feb. 1.

The show had been rumored since a report in the New York Post on August 11.

What does it say about an act when it appears in the Super Bowl?

“Esteemed” (the NFL’s adjective) halftime acts of recent years have included the Rolling Stones, U2, Prince and Paul McCartney.

The league says some 148 million viewers watched last year’s show, which featured Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.
