A pair of events culminating with dinner at the Navesink River chateau of singer Bon Jovi last Friday generated $4.1 million for the campaign coffers of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, the Star-Ledger reports.

Attorney William Harla, a former Hillary Clinton fund-raiser who helped arrange the two private events in Middletown Friday night, called them a major success. The combined amount surpassed the $1.5 million that McCain raised at his last New Jersey fund-raiser, in Teaneck nearly a month ago.

Harla gave much of the credit to Gov. Jon Corzine, who initially backed Clinton but has rallied behind his party’s nominee. The governor “took a very active role in making sure the fund-raiser was a success,” Harla said…

The latest reports available from the Federal Election Commission showed that, through June 30, Obama had received $5.9 million from donors listing New Jersey as their address, compared to $2.5 million for McCain

Guests paid $2,300 to attend a reception at the home of Democratic national finance chairman Phil Murphy also on the Navesink in Middletown. They then traveled two miles east for dinner at Bojo’s house, where the tab was $28,500 per seat.

The Associated Press had previously reported that more than 100 guests were in attendance.
