COPS: GUN DEATH AT SCHOOL WAS SUICIDE
A 22-year-old River Street man shot and killed himself at the Red Bank Primary School after calling police to say he was suicidal last night, authorities say.
Peter Warshaw, first assistant Monmouth County prosecutor, tells the Asbury Park Press that Russell Jackson shot himself at about 11p as police officers approached him.
Red Bank police, citing policy, referred all questions about the incident earlier today to the prosecutors’ office, which did not respond to a phone message.
We’re told that the incident occurred in the school’s parking lot.
A neighbor tells us that Jackson was a smart, “extremely well-liked” graduate of Red Bank Regional.
