According to a press release issued today by Red Bank Police Department, an off-duty Little Silver police officer reported an accident on Madison Avenue in Red Bank at about 2:24a. An investigation showed that a vehicle, driven by Devon Cashes, 23, had struck a parked car there.

Ptl. Robert Gannon arrested Cashes for driving while intoxicated and possession of a straight razor knife. Further investigation uncovered a loaded 9mm handgun and a set of brass knuckles, according to the report.

Cashes was also alleged to have previously hit a parked vehicle on Spring Street.

Later, at police headquarters, Cashes was found to be in possession of a controlled dangerous substance believed to be cocaine, which he attempted to destroy, police contend.

In the interim, Cashes had been taken to Riverview Medical Center where, while being treated, he threatened hospital staff.

In addition to firearms counts — possession, possession for an unlawful purpose, possession in a motor vehicle — Cashes was charged with DWI and “numerous motor vehicle offenses;” unlawful possession of brass knuckles and a straight razor; drug possession; tampering with evidence and making terroristic threats.

Bail was set at $192,500 by Municipal Judge William Himelman, and Cashes was committed to the Monmouth County Correctional Institute.
